What you need to know

Target shooting, also known as shooting on clay pigeons or shooting at a stand. This is a sport that consists of a dozen different races, when special targets are made of fragile material is shot with a shotcrete shotgun, patched with fine shotguns. It is a sport that can practise by a group of friends from the age of 9 to 90 as a leisure activity or club, and may also participate in city, state or international competitions, and the latter sometimes attract more than a thousand sports enthusiasts or experts. The participants in this sport come from a wide range of societies, and we are increasingly seeing women and youth. Therefore, shooting at targets is becoming more and more family sport. Among the worlds over 10 of these sports, there are three contests that are included in the Olympic Games program. It’s shooting at the Roundabout, shooting at the Trampoline and shooting Dublettes.

The Lithuanian Hunting Shooting Federation was founded on April 15, 2005. The Federation is based in Vilnius, but its activities cover the entire Republic. The federation currently has about 60 members, some of which are clubs. The federation is currently engaged in the promotion of two races – Sporting and Compak Sports.

The names came from the English word Sporting, Compak sporting. FITASC, (FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DE TIR AUX ARMES SPORTIVES DE CHASSE), which is also a member of the LCHRF, is engaged in the international promotion of these competitions. That’s why this sporting event is sometimes called FITASC SPORTING to distinguish it from other competitions such as English Sporting – English sports. Although Sporting and Compak Sporting are not competitions included in the Olympic Games program, they are very popular. Currently, in Lithuania, shooters from all larger cities take part in the competition, the shooting range is either in Vilnius, Kaunas, Kedainiai, Šiauliai, Plungė, Pakruojis, Anykščiai and other cities.

The term “stand firing” is from the Russian ” стендовая стрельба” and apparently originates from the English word “stand” – the position where the shooting is performed. In the long run in Russia, the word “стенд” became the synonym of the shooting. However, in England itself, the word “clay shooting” or “clay pigeon shooting” was used to describe this shooting, and Lithuanian was called “shooting in clay pigeons” in the interwar period.

Sporting, or FITASC Sports (FITASC is an international federation abbreviation) – shooting targets, also called shoot-out shootout, in which each shooter receives different target flights, with the highest possible range of angles, speeds, heights, distances, trajectories, as well as different targets, which currently have 5 different shapes and colors. In international competitions, 200 targets are generally shot, divided into 8 series of 25 targets. There are 12 gauge shotguns firing, which do not differ significantly from traditional hunting weapons. Participants are men and womenof all ages: from young (21), elderly (21-55), veterans (56-65) to super-veterans (66 and over). This sport partially resigns hunting, while hunters gain a better qualification, but a significant proportion of athletes don’t hunting. Shooting sites for sporting events are arranged in different natural conditions – in the fields, on hills, on slopes, near water bodies, etc. Therefore, participants have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature. Great attention is paid to the ethical aspect of this sport. Excellent and environmentally friendly targets are being produced now. In some countries it is permissible to shoot only steel shakers, which have a lower impact on the environment. It should also be noted that the relations of people involved in this sport are respectful, ethical, there are rules in the clothing shooting range. This branch of sport in Lithuania arose relatively recently – approximately since 2005, when the Lithuanian Hunting Shooting Federation (LMWF) was established. In the same year, the federation was admitted to FITASC, which is engaged in the international promotion of the contest (FITASC – FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DE TIR AUX ARMES SPORTIVES DE CHASSE, http://www.fitasc.com/), which was founded in 1921.

During the Soviet occupation, this sport was unknown because it was not part of the Olympic Games program. The USSR, for political reasons, was not interested in a non-Olympic sport, and the main rule of international federation leaders was and is not the status of an Olympic branch. However, this competition is very popular among amateur shooters. Over a thousand participants from 30-40 countries gather in large international competitions. A shooter capable of showing high scores in a sporting contest can also successfully participate in other stand-up shootings, including the Olympic Games. There are plenty of these stand shots, for example, in England, two stand-fire federations combine up to 12 different contests.

Compak sporting is a race for firing targets, also known as sight-firing, where, at a distance of 3-5 meters, with five shooting spots are located in a single line, for which there are 6 target throwers. This branch of sport in Lithuania arose relatively recently – approximately since 2005, when the Lithuanian Hunting Shooting Federation (LMWF) was established. In the same year, the federation was admitted to FITASC, which is engaged in the international promotion of the event (FITASC – FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DE TIR AUX ARMES SPORTIVES DE CHASSE, http://www.fitasc.com/), which was founded in 1921. Targets are diverse – 5 different types, as in a sporting match, and target flying trajectories have to cross a certain area (40 meters in width and 25 in meters) in front of the shooters. The first championship in Lithuania took place in 2005. The Open Championship’s absolute winners in the compak sporting event are:
